About Us

“It’s only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.”
(Roy T. Bennett)

Being a police officer is challenging at times. Being a gay police officer presents even more challenges when you feel ostracized, unwelcomed, and alone. Sometimes those challenges become intensified by the manner in which an agency is run (the politics and bureaucracies) or the way a supervisor or manager uses their power to ensure "you know your place." Even more damaging can be the way in which co-workers handle themselves around you in a day to day basis or chose to avoid you altogether.

Yet, not all officers experience those challenges. There are some employees who have gone through their career without any adverse treatment from their co-workers or their chain of command for being LGBT. There are progressive leaders that have done an outstanding job at setting the example and refuse to allow any kind of mistreatment against anyone regardless of the reason for it.

Even more inspiring is the fact that there are LGBT Leaders among our chain of command that are willing to stand up for their beliefs and not only be a positive role model for the troops but also stand up for the community they represent.

We created our group of employees so that anyone who finds themselves in a challenging situation has a safe place to receive the support and guidance they may not feel comfortable seeking elsewhere. Our ultimate vision for our future is being able to connect all those members to form a strong bond of role models and proteges who will lead us into a new generation of exemplary leadership framing all walks of life and professional levels.

We hope that with our collaborative knowledge and resources we can better assist employees to reach their full potential both inside and outside of work.

“Success is not how high you have climbed, but how you make a positive difference to the world.”
(Roy T. Bennett)

Our Mission

The mission of the Houston Law Enforcement Alliance of Price (Houston LEAP) is to provide a safe environment for classified and civilian employees to excel and reach their full potential inside and outside the workplace regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

We strive to encourage diversity and inclusion of all people within the organization and advocate for professional and intellectual growth and self-awareness. We promise to always act in the best interest of our members regardless of job title or position and promote networking and mentoring opportunities to those who wish to participate.

We hope to bridge positive relationships among all employees and civilians through education and awareness while acting as an information resource center and social engagement hub for interested members. In following our mission and core values, we hope to create a healthy and welcoming environment in which all members of the department, civilian or classified employees, are able to find support, resources, motivation, and encouragement for any LGBT related issues whether it concerns work, family, or personal matters.
